There are three cookies with varying names: Caramel deLites/Samoas, Peanut Butter Patties/Tagalongs and Do-si-dos/Peanut Butter Sandwich. Depending on where customers live, their Girl Scout cookie experience may differ, because each baker uses slightly different ingredients, recipes and names. ABC Bakers in North Sioux City, South Dakota, and Little Brownie Bakers in Louisville, Kentucky. Girl Scouts of the USA currently license two commercial bakers to produce Girl Scout cookies. One hundred percent of the revenue raised stays with local councils and troops-each troop receives a percentage of the money earned, and the rest is kept locally by the Girl Scout council for scouting programs in their area. Over 200 million boxes are sold yearly, raking in an impressive $800 million. ![]() Today there are approximately 1.7 million Girl Scouts across the United States, and between February and March, Girl Scout cookies outsell every other cookie on the market. Five years later, in 1922, each of the approximately 2,000 participating Girl Scouts were given a standardized cookie recipe to follow, and sales went nationwide. The Mistletoe Troop in Muskogee, Oklahoma, baked cookies as a troop fundraiser and sold them for 30 cents per dozen in the town's high school cafeteria. The famed cookie sales program began in 1917, five years after Juliett Gordon Low started Girl Scouts. ![]()
