Stalker 2 nfts1/16/2024 ![]() ![]() ![]() Stalker 2: Heart Of Chernobyl releases for Xbox Series X/S and PC in April 2022. We can only hope the same will happen with NFTs… It’s all very reminiscent of previous video game fads such as loot boxes, which publishers tried to exploit as much as possible until the push back from ordinary customers – as exemplified by the debacle surrounding Star Wars: Battlefront 2 – made the whole concept untenable and most games ended up removing them. Public reception was, as you’d imagine, not kind. It’s why game companies like Ubisoft are starting to take a serious interest, even when audiences and market forces come in to correct them and dismantle their arguments in favour of NFTs. STALKER 2 developers GSC Game World announced yesterday that they’d be adding NFTs to the game. While NFTs have quickly become PR poison, there is unfortunately still an audience for them. Stalker 2 does currently lack microtransactions or any other means of making extra money outside of game sales but there are two rather expensive special editions available for pre-order, which cost £64.99 and £94.99 respectively. ![]() The idea of selling NFTs has also repeatedly been compared to Ponzi schemes, where only those involved in the first few sales have any real chance of making money, until someone later in the chain is left with an essentially worthless digital item.Ĭall Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 officially revealed… to some NBA players The majority likely weren’t concerned that the NFTs would impact gameplay but simply that their very existence is essentially a con, asking people to pay ownership for a piece of content that, technically, would never actually be theirs to own. This clearly wasn’t enough to placate the community though. Which basically reads as ‘Oh these are the good NFTs’. GSC wrote that DMarket, the company it was partnering with, prioritises providing low energy consumption and minimising CO2 emissions and other negative environment impacts. One of the big criticisms against NFTs is that their creation is ultimately harmful to the environment. It also addressed the environmental impact. Secondly, it was claimed that the NFTs wouldn’t have affected gameplay and were entirely optional, which is the same defence some give for certain microtransactions and DLC. Any moneymade from the NFTs would have been spent on improving the game. The Tweet has since been deleted but, naturally, someone saved it for posterity’s sake and shared it on ResetEra.įirstly, it explained that, with Stalker 2 being the ‘biggest and most complex game’ GSC has ever made, it needs additional funds for development. This came only hours after the studio issued a defence of its NFT implementation. ![]()
